In Liverpool today the University of Liverpool and its e-learning
partner K.I.T had much to be proud of; three years after the launch
of the very first online masters programme in Europe they are celebrating
the graduation of 22 of their students who partook in the online
MBA and MSc in Information Technology programmes.
All study has been undertaken in the university's 'virtual classrooms'
allowing students from anywhere in world to work at their own pace
without having to commit to a fixed time of day, time zone or day
of the week. Although 50% of those students graduating came from
the UK, many came from Singapore, China and the Netherlands.
As one would expect working in this environment, students have
the opportunity to interact, share ideas, learn from one another
and build 'virtual' friendships. Yesterday therefore combined a
celebration of academic achievement with an opportunity for the
graduates to meet their fellow students in person for the first
time.
Shai Reshef, Chairman for KIT eLearning said, "We have seen
the demand of the online MBA and MSc in IT grow by 100 per cent.
And that demand is truly global and has added international flavour
to our current student population of over 1600. It is particularly
gratifying to see students interacting face-to-face for the first
time".
Professor Drummond Bone, Vice Chancellor of the University of Liverpool
added, "The programmes have received praise from students for
the quality of the tuition and the relevance of the content to their
careers. Year on year we have seen an increase in our online students.
We are delighted to lead this groundbreaking initiative and to be
at the forefront of online post-graduate education.
