Dutch multinationals set trend

The Netherlands

Amsterdam, 23 May 2002

Increasing number of Dutch professionals follow their MBA at University of Liverpool online.

Online study for MBA and MSc degrees is becoming more and more popular. Within just a year of the launch in the Netherlands of the first global online MBA, the University of Liverpool online programmes have grown to become one of the most popular management courses in the country. Many Dutch based companies and multinationals are investing in their current and future managers by supporting them to follow an online masters programme.

Dutch students have found their way to the University of Liverpool. Online.
Since its launch in the Netherlands as the programme's first European market, substantial numbers of Dutch professionals have been admitted to the University of Liverpool's online programmes. Students study with colleagues from all over the world, via the Internet, on programmes designed to enhance their career prospects. Tens of thousands of potential students from around the globe, from Singapore to Canada, have shown interest in the programmes. "The program provides me with both practical knowledge as well as with an academic insight", says Edwin de Nies, consultant at CMG, a student from The Netherlands. "Being able to discuss with lecturers and fellow students from abroad is a very pleasant experience".

Popular Master Programs for multinationals
With so many multinationals and large scale operations, the Netherlands is a key market for the University of Liverpool. Results have shown that companies based in the Netherlands are more inclined to adopt innovations in education and economic development than their competitors in other countries. Dutch multinationals sponsor their employees to follow the University of Liverpool's online courses, which helps improve productivity and enhance the level of professional skills in the company. ABN-AMRO, EDS, and Philips are among the leading corporations who have partnered with the University to offer its unique programmes to their higher and middle management.

University of Liverpool Online boosts participants' careers
The online Masters programmes are delivered in mixed international classrooms of career high flyers. The student visits the virtual classroom four times a week, anytime and anywhere he or she chooses and is taught online by academics from all over the world. Discussion and exchanging experiences with colleagues and industrial experts are essential parts of the Masters programme. This unique feature allows online education to offer a more interactive mode of learning than some traditional on-campus educational approaches. Besides broadening their own personal network and knowledge, the student's employer benefits from exposing their staff to this international learning environment. Shai Reshef is Chairman of the Board of, as he calls it, the fastest growing university in the world. He expects that the growth in demand for the University of Liverpool's online programmes to continue for quite a while: "Everybody is enthusiastic, especially the students. That is because we offer a study opportunity of real international quality". In a recent external quality assurance survey, 87% of the students said they would recommend the programme to colleagues.

The company has unexpectedly exceeded its own growth forecasts and, having moved its Head office and operations to Amsterdam, the company is set to keep double in size annually.
