| Liverpool, UK – On July 8 2005, over 200 working professionals
from across the globe received their Masters degree from the University
of Liverpool Online Higher Education programmes, which are delivered
in partnership with Amsterdam-based Laureate Online Education B.V.
This graduating class, which comprised 244 executives receiving
their MBA or MSc in IT degrees – 115 traveled to Liverpool
to receive their certificates in person - was the largest in the
5-year history of these 100% online programmes. The first graduating
class, in Summer 2003, comprised a grand total of two people. The
ensuing increase in programme participants reflects the unique suitability
of 100% online, academically-excellent Masters programmes to working
professionals worldwide.
Professor Drummond Bone, Vice Chancellor of the University of Liverpool,
says: ”These revolutionary online Masters programmes are truly
setting the agenda for higher education in the 21st century and
I am delighted that the University is at the forefront of this exciting
development.”
Among the more attractive attributes of these programmes, one that
adds value for all participants, is the international exposure and
interaction offered by the University of Liverpool’s 100%
online Masters. Experienced executives from over 100 countries,
diverse in age and industry, collaborate across time zones and cultural
expectations in their daily coursework (which includes group and
individual projects and ongoing critiques and discussions). This
ongoing communication creates something unique: a microcosm of management
in an international business arena. It is particularly relevant
for today’s executives, who work in a newly globalised economy,
providing them with enhanced intercultural ‘soft skills’
as well as a network of professional peers that spans Asia, Africa,
Europe, Australia, and North and South America.
“Today, distance is no longer a barrier in business or education,”says
Yoram M. Kalman, Senior Vice President for Academics for Laureate.
“You have to compete with the whole world. Our students are
on the forefront of executives who realise they must be prepared
for this globalised business arena. We’re empowering people
with these oline Masters programmes,” he continues, “enabling
them to cope and succeed in the new global economy while they study
wherever they may be.”
The graduation ceremony began at 3pm in the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic
Hall. It was followed that evening by a student event at the Tate
Gallery Liverpool, where current University of Liverpool/Laureate
students met with the new graduates and alumni, staff, and faculty
face to face.
