UNIVERSITY OF LIVERPOOL 100% ONLINE GRADUATE NUMBERS CONTINUE TO GROW
Networking Opportunities Add Value to Liverpool/Laureate Online Masters Programmes
Liverpool, UK - 13 December 2005 was the official graduation date for 286 participants of the 100% online Masters Programmes of the University of Liverpool/Laureate Online Education. Of this number, 113 came to Liverpool to graduate in person, many attended by family and friends. The gala graduation ceremony began at 3:30 PM in the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Hall and was followed by an evening reception at the Tate Gallery Liverpool.
This marks the largest graduation class of the Liverpool/Laureate programmes. University of Liverpool Vice-Chancellor, Professor Drummond Bone, says: "Liverpool is ahead of the field in delivering innovative online degree programmes. We are responding to the needs of employers and high-value graduates by removing some of the traditional barriers that have limited opportunities for postgraduate study.
"I was delighted to see how many of our online graduates travelled to Liverpool from overseas to be awarded their degrees - meeting their fellow students for the first time."
Beyond numbers, a survey of the working professionals currently enroled on these MBA, MSc in IT, or MSc in Information Systems Management reveals that they are often quite highly placed in their companies, holding positions as Directors or Managers. Further, they represent such companies and organisations as Reuters, General Electric, Vodafone, Nestle, Hewlett Packard, Microsoft, the United Nations and the World Health Organisation; and they come from over 120 countries. As networking is amongst the most sought-after benefits of professionals engaged in any Masters programme, particularly in an environment that provides insights and abilities in global best practices, the interaction-intensive Liverpool online programmes provide added value to participants.
Professor Bone comments that the University's close links to business are key to these programmes' growth. "Successful business people have always valued the broadened perspective to be gained from a first-hand understanding of businesses other than their own, and the context from which those businesses derive new models and practices," he says. "Our graduates from the online programmes say that one of the most positive aspects is that they learn with professionals who not only are currently working in a wide variety of industries, but who are actively encouraged to share their knowledge and explore their experiences - to communicate, collaborate and interact with each other."
